What is Rochester Escape Rooms?
Rochester Escape Rooms is a live escape game in which teams of four to eight people are locked in a room. Together they must find clues in order to unlock the door and make their escape!
How many rooms do you have?
At the moment we have two rooms, "The Haunted Bed & Breakfast" and "Dorm Daze".
We are planning on opening two additional rooms in the coming months, and we'll create brand new rooms to replace existing rooms over time.
What are your opening times?
Rochester Escape Rooms is open Wednesday through Friday during the evening and most of the day on weekends.
Games must be booked at least 2 hours in advance. Please check available dates and times on our calendar.
In case you're wondering about a last minute drop-in, please call us at 585-413-0115.
Who can play?
Rochester Escape Rooms is best played in a team of eight, but a minimum of four and a maximum of eight can book a session.
We recommend that players are aged 14 and over. Players under 18 years old should be accompanied by at least one adult over the age of 18, although exceptions are possible. We have had participants as young as 6 years old play the game, and they enjoyed it.
How long does a game take?
The length of the experience varies from team to team but we find that the average session lasts about an hour. Staff will hold a short instruction briefing before each game and a debriefing after the game if desired.
Will we get help if we get stuck in the game?
Players get the most out of the game when they work together to find the answers themselves.
But if a team gets really stuck, Rochester Escape Rooms team will provide helpful clues.
Is it scary?
The games may contain hints of scariness, but is not truly frightening as a haunted house might be. We recommend players are over the age of 14 because of the challenging nature of the puzzles you will encounter. Rochester Escape Rooms experiences may include darkness and sound. We do our best to avoid flashing lights.
How big is the room?
The room is comfortably big enough to accommodate teams of up to eight people – and the game involves moving around within the space. Most of the rooms are approximately 200 square feet, although that does vary somewhat. If you want more than 8 people to play, please contact us and we can discuss it. We have had as many as 13 in a room, but this must be requested ahead of time.
Is Rochester Escape Rooms suitable for visitors with limited mobility or wheelchair users?
We want Rochester Escape Rooms to be a challenge that everyone can enjoy.
Unfortunately, we do not yet have a wheelchair ramp into the building.
We are planning to make alterations to the building entrance as soon as we can in order to make Rochester Escape Rooms suitable for everyone who wants to visit.
Once inside the building, we have stairs or a small elevator that can be used to access the escape room floor.
Please contact us to discuss your requirements before booking if you have special needs. We'll do our best to accommodate them.
Are we really locked inside the room?
The aim of the game is to find the key or code to unlock the door to make your escape. The Rochester Escape Rooms team is able to monitor players' progress from outside the room and can open the door at any time if there is a problem. Due to insurance, legal, and fire code requirements, we're currently leaving the entrance to each room unlocked so that players may leave the game at any time due to biological needs or in case of emergency through the entrance door. If we do decide to lock all exits from a room in the future, there will be an emergency button in the room that players can press if they want to abandon the game and open the door.
Is the game difficult?
The game is designed to be challenging! However, the vast majority of teams will be able to complete it if they think laterally and work together.
Do you have any advice for someone new to the game?
Be aware of your surroundings, talk the puzzles through with your team-mates and, most importantly, work together to solve the problems.
How many people can play the game at once?
We recommend that for the best experience, players book in teams of eight. However, we are able to accept a minimum of four players.
If fewer than eight people in your group sign up for a room, then other people will be able to reserve the additional open spots and will join the escape team. This will actually enhance your experience as more people definitely makes the experience more enjoyable. If you want more than 8 people to play, please contact us and we can discuss it. We have had as many as 13 in a room.
Is there an age restriction?
We recommend that players are aged 14 or over, and that any players aged under 18 are accompanied by at least one adult who is over the age of 18. However, we are open to children of all ages and have had children as young as 6 years old enjoy themselves.
Can children under the age 14 participate?
Due to the nature of the puzzles, we recommend that players are aged 14 or over as players under the age 14 can have difficulty recognizing or understanding the correlation between puzzles.

Yes, we allow other members of the public to fill up vacant slots in the room if there is availability.
